CHANNELVIEW, TX

HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL BRIDGE EXPANSION

Overview

In October 2017, Zachry Construction Corporation and Traylor Brothers, a firm that specializes in bridge structure, was awarded a three-phase cable-stayed bridge contract by the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) to build the Houston Ship Channel bridge. The joint venture between Zachry and Traylor, the Ship Channel Constructors (SCC), began work in January 2018.

In January 2022, SCC continues construction of an updated design by COWI, which calls for a steel-composite cable-stay suspension bridge which eliminates the need for pylon structures and accommodates ongoing dredging projects to improve the waterway.
